Chennai, India—The UAE cricket team’s management sent opening batsman Mohammad Zohib back to the UAE from India during the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 camp, a move that has sparked controversy and accusations of discrimination. Zohib claimed he was dropped from the squad because of his Pakistani nationality, alleging the entire team management was Indian and that this influenced the decision.

However, the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) denied these claims, stating Zohib was sent back to Dubai due to “breaches of discipline” and that the board would release further details at an appropriate time.
Zohib has called for a formal investigation into the matter, insisting his nationality should not affect selection decisions or treatment within the team.
The UAE squad is currently in Chennai, India, preparing for matches in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, with this incident drawing attention amid broader discussions on team unity and fair treatment in international cricket.
