Islamabad: The talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan in Istanbul have reportedly reached a deadlock, despite mediation efforts by Turkey and Qatar.
Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar said in a statement on social media that Pakistan stands firm on its principled stance that the responsibility for curbing terrorism originating from Afghan soil lies squarely with Afghanistan.
He said that the Afghan Taliban has failed to honor its international, regional, and bilateral commitments under the Doha Peace Agreement, which was designed to ensure peace and prevent cross-border terrorism.
The minister added that Pakistan maintains goodwill toward the Afghan people and sincerely wishes for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan. However, Islamabad will not support any step by the Taliban government that goes against the interests of the Afghan people or neighboring countries.
Atta Tarar emphasized that Pakistan will continue to take all necessary measures to protect its people and sovereignty, thanking Turkey and Qatar for facilitating the ongoing dialogue.
It should be noted that the third round of talks between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban began yesterday in Istanbul, with discussions focused on establishing a monitoring mechanism to prevent terrorism.
