In a remarkable medical feat, doctors at Sindh Government Lyari General Hospital in Karachi successfully removed a lock from the stomach of a 23-year-old mentally ill patient without resorting to surgery.
The patient, a resident of Khokhrapar, was brought to the hospital in critical condition after swallowing a lock, according to Professor Anjum Rehman, a senior doctor at the facility.
An X-ray revealed the lock clearly lodged in her stomach, prompting immediate action from the medical team.
Using a non-invasive technique called laparoscopy, the doctors skillfully extracted the lock without the need for traditional surgery.
This minimally invasive procedure not only reduced the risks associated with open surgery but also ensured a quicker recovery for the patient.
Professor Rehman confirmed, “The patient’s life is now out of danger, and she is stable.”
