Iran claims that its nuclear program is no longer constrained by “restrictions”

While Tehran reaffirmed its “commitment to diplomacy,” Iran declared on Saturday that it was no longer constrained by limitations on its nuclear program as a historic 10-year agreement with world powers came to an end.

International sanctions against the Islamic Republic were lifted in exchange for limitations on its nuclear program as part of the 2015 agreement, which was signed in Vienna by Iran, China, Britain, France, Germany, Russia, and the United States.

However, the agreement had already lost its significance when Iran eventually withdrew from its obligations and Washington unilaterally withdrew during President Donald Trump’s first term.

The agreement was essentially meaningless when the United Nations reimposed sanctions last month at the request of three European members.

From now on, “all of the provisions (of the deal), including the restrictions on the Iranian nuclear programme and the related mechanisms are considered terminated”, Iran’s foreign ministry said in a statement on the day of the pact’s expiration.
