SYDNEY: The International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering relocating major upcoming tournaments from India to Australia due to ongoing political and security concerns in South Asia, according to media reports.

The tournaments under review include the 2029 Champions Trophy and the 2031 One-Day International World Cup, which were originally scheduled to be hosted by India.
Australia has emerged as the leading alternative venue because of its strong track record in organising global cricket events and its established infrastructure.
The development comes amid continued tensions between India and Pakistan, which have already affected bilateral cricket ties and ICC tournament arrangements. Both countries have agreed under a hybrid model that their matches in ICC events will be played at neutral venues instead of on each other’s soil.
The issue has also raised wider concerns among other cricket-playing nations. Reports indicated that Bangladesh had earlier expressed reservations about travelling to India for international competitions, citing security considerations.
The ICC has not yet announced a final decision, but discussions are ongoing as the governing body evaluates logistical, security, and political factors.
If confirmed, the move would mark a significant shift in global cricket scheduling and highlight the continuing impact of geopolitical tensions on international sport.
