On Friday morning, October 10, 2025, a devastating incident unfolded at the University of Karachi (KU), where a young student lost her life in an accident involving a campus point bus.
Anika Saeed, a dedicated student in the Department of Social Work tragically died after a KU point bus reversed and struck her near the Mahmood Hussain Library. This heartbreaking event has not only shattered the campus community but also reignited urgent calls for improved vehicle safety protocols.
According to reports, the accident occurred around 9:15 AM. Anika had just disembarked from the bus at the back gate, but as the vehicle began reversing, its rear wheels ran over her, causing fatal injuries.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with fellow students rushing to help before emergency services arrived. However, despite immediate medical attention, Anika succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter.
This tragedy highlights ongoing concerns about transportation safety within KU’s sprawling campus. Students frequently rely on these point buses to navigate between departments, yet past incidents have exposed gaps in driver training and vehicle maintenance.
Our thoughts remain with her family, friends, and the entire KU community during this difficult time.
