On September 2, 2025, a devastating explosion rocked Quetta’s Sariab Road near Shahwani Stadium, claiming 14 lives and injuring 35 others. The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) suspects a suicide bombing, with investigations underway to uncover the perpetrators and motives behind this tragic attack.
The blast struck near Shahwani Stadium, a busy hub in Quetta, shortly after a Balochistan National Party (BNP) rally commemorating the fourth death anniversary of party founder Sardar Attaullah Mengal. According to police reports, the explosion occurred in the parking lot as BNP chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal’s convoy passed by, though he escaped unharmed.
Dr. Hadi Kakar, Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Quetta, confirmed that 14 people died, with 35 others injured, five of whom remain in critical condition. Emergency services swiftly transported the wounded to Civil Hospital and Bolan Medical Complex, where medical teams are working tirelessly to save lives.
The CTD spokesperson stated that initial evidence points to a suicide attack, with teams actively collecting forensic material from the site. Moreover, the blast damaged four vehicles and caused widespread panic in the area.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti condemned the attack, calling it a “cowardly act” aimed at destabilizing the region. He vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice and ordered top-quality medical care for the injured.
