PM Shehbaz Highlights Agriculture, IT and Minerals as Future of Pakistan-China Partnership

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has highlighted agriculture, information technology, special economic zones (SEZs), and mines and minerals as the most promising sectors for future cooperation between Pakistan and China during his official visit to China. Addressing the Pakistan-China Business-to-Business Investment Conference in Hangzhou, the premier urged Chinese investors to explore long-term partnerships under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC 2.0).

Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan’s agriculture sector holds massive untapped potential and stressed the importance of modern farming methods, mechanisation, high-quality seeds, and value-added exports. He noted that China imports nearly $100 billion worth of agricultural products annually and expressed confidence that Pakistan could significantly increase its share in the coming years.

The prime minister also promoted investment opportunities in Pakistan’s IT and artificial intelligence sectors while inviting Chinese companies to establish industries in Pakistan’s special economic zones, including Karachi’s large export-focused SEZ. He assured investors of business-friendly policies, long-term lease facilities, and government support.

Highlighting Pakistan’s vast mineral and gemstone reserves, Shehbaz encouraged Chinese firms to invest in mining projects, saying the country seeks “investment, expertise, and technology” rather than financial handouts. Several agreements and memorandums of understanding are expected to be signed during the visit to strengthen bilateral trade and economic ties.
