PIA Privatisation: New Owners Expected to Run Airline from April

Pakistan’s national airline, PIA, is expected to be operated by new owners starting April next year, Federal Privatisation Adviser Muhammad Ali said in a statement. The government’s privatisation deal is designed not as a full transfer of ownership but to bring fresh investment and strategic management into the airline to help revive its performance and competitiveness.

Talking to news agencies, Muhammad Ali explained that the Arif Habib Group—part of the consortium involved—has pledged to work toward making PIA a “great airline once again,” emphasising commitment to efficiency and improved services. The adviser noted the government will still retain a 25 percent stake and expects to receive around Rs 10 billion in cash from the transaction.

Ali also dismissed recent allegations regarding asset sales related to the privatisation process. Officials remain focused on implementing the plan smoothly ahead of the anticipated April transition.
