PM Shehbaz Sharif Orders National Energy Plan, Boosts Ports Expansion and Cuts Charges

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has given the green light to drafting a comprehensive National Energy Plan to be developed with input from all relevant ministries and provincial governments. He also instructed the creation of a dedicated secretariat to oversee the energy strategy, aimed at ensuring affordable electricity for industry and households.

At a high-level meeting in Islamabad, Shehbaz emphasised that Pakistan must accelerate efforts to expand major ports, introduce transparent systems for auctioning idle cargo, and reduce various port charges to boost trade and competitiveness. The Prime Minister also announced a framework for competitive bidding of wheeling charges and urged efforts to attract investment for power sector upgrades.

He also announced the establishment of a university in Azad Kashmir and the launch of the Pakistan Education Endowment Fund to promote education nationwide.
