Senior lawmaker Noor Alam Khan has urged that bureaucrats in Pakistan should be barred from holding dual nationality, pushing for amendments that would extend current restrictions on parliamentarians to civil servants as well. Khan—speaking at a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat—introduced a private bill to amend the Civil Servants Act, 1973, proposing that any government officer with citizenship of another country should be ineligible for appointment or service. The move follows a longstanding debate over loyalty and public office eligibility, which already disqualifies dual nationals from serving as lawmakers under Article 63(1)(c) of the Constitution.

During the session, Khan argued that if civil servants were allowed to hold foreign citizenship, they could have conflicting loyalties, and suggested that either bureaucrats should lose dual citizenship or parliamentarians should be allowed to hold it too.
Committee members largely supported the proposal and agreed to revisit the bill in a follow-up meeting, with a report to be sent to the prime minister for further consideration.
