Islamabad: Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has said that he should be released on parole so he can help resolve the ongoing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan in the interest of peace.
Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail through his sister Noreen Khan, Imran Khan conveyed his concern over the recent violence involving a religious party. He expressed sorrow and urged state institutions to form a judicial commission to investigate four key incidents, including the events of May 9.
Imran Khan also instructed PTI supporters to hold protests in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa today.
Commenting on the Afghanistan situation, he said, “Afghanistan is our neighboring country where war has continued for 45 years. Refugees who lived here for three generations have now been expelled abruptly and forcefully. This will only create resentment against Pakistan.”
He added, “Whatever is happening between Pakistan and Afghanistan should be resolved politically. Release me on parole, and I will work to bring peace between the two countries.”
It is worth mentioning that Pakistan has already announced a 48-hour ceasefire at the request of the Afghan Taliban. According to the Foreign Ministry, the temporary ceasefire began at 6 p.m. today to promote dialogue and de-escalation.
