DOHA: The first round of talks between delegations from Pakistan and Afghanistan concluded in Doha, Qatar, with Pakistan strongly objecting to the presence of banned terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil.
According to diplomatic sources, the talks are being hosted by Qatari Intelligence Chief Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khalifa. The discussions are focused on a single-point agenda — the infiltration and cross-border attacks carried out by terrorist groups based in Afghanistan.
Pakistan’s delegation was led by Defense Minister Khawaja Asif and included senior officials from Pakistan’s security establishment. On the Afghan side, Defense Minister Mullah Yaqoob headed the delegation, accompanied by the Afghan Intelligence Chief.
Diplomatic sources confirmed that the first round of talks has concluded and the next session will take place tomorrow morning in Doha.
During the discussions, the Pakistani delegation reportedly conveyed that the presence of banned organizations within Afghanistan was “unacceptable” and demanded concrete action to dismantle their networks.
It should be recalled that a temporary ceasefire was agreed upon between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban regime yesterday in Qatar to ease ongoing border tensions until the completion of the Doha dialogue.
