In a significant crackdown on illegal fuel trade, the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Karachi, in a coordinated operation with a special agency, has seized a substantial quantity of smuggled Iranian diesel and the vehicles used for its distribution.
The operation, conducted at various petrol pumps situated in the Northern Bypass area of Karachi, resulted in the recovery and confiscation of 96,697 liters of smuggled Iranian diesel stored in underground tanks. Furthermore, the ASO team also intercepted and impounded seven Mazda tankers that were allegedly involved in supplying this illicit diesel to different parts of the city.
The total estimated value of the seized smuggled Iranian diesel is PKR 2 crore 50 lakh rupees. The seven impounded Mazda tankers are valued at an additional PKR 3 crore, bringing the total worth of the seized goods (diesel and tankers) to PKR 5 crore 50 lakh. The confiscated smuggled Iranian diesel has been transferred to the ASO warehouse via oil tankers. A formal case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Customs Act, and further investigations are currently underway. This successful operation marks a continued effort by the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of the Enforcement Collectorate Karachi in curbing illegal fuel trade. Over the past eight days alone, the ASO has confiscated a total of 123,497 liters of smuggled Iranian diesel, valued at PKR 31.94 million, from various locations across Karachi.
