On July 22, 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to creating a safe and business-friendly environment for Chinese nationals, emphasizing their critical role in the country’s economic future.
Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad focused on security arrangements for Chinese citizens, the Prime Minister outlined ongoing efforts to bolster their protection nationwide. “The confidence of Chinese companies in the Pakistani economy is extremely important,” he stated, highlighting the strategic partnership between Pakistan and China, particularly through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The meeting reviewed multiple measures to enhance security, including the expansion of Safe City projects, which PM Sharif described as a benchmark for international standards. These projects, under construction across Pakistan, aim to strengthen urban safety through advanced surveillance and rapid response systems.
The Prime Minister directed authorities to prioritize facilities at airports to streamline the arrival and departure of Chinese nationals, reflecting the growing importance of CPEC’s second phase, which focuses on business-to-business cooperation.
Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi briefed the Prime Minister on nationwide security arrangements, noting that special protocols, including security escorts for travel, have been implemented in response to potential terrorist threats.
The federal government and provincial authorities are collaborating closely to ensure robust protection, with new housing projects mandated to install cameras meeting Safe City standards. PM Sharif reiterated that safeguarding Chinese nationals, whom he referred to as “Chinese brothers,” is a top priority, given China’s status as a key ally and CPEC’s role as a flagship joint project.
The meeting, attended by Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, Minister of State Talal Chaudhry, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, and senior officials, highlighted Pakistan’s proactive approach to fostering a secure environment for Chinese investors and workers.
