Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Doha on Monday for a one-day visit to offer Pakistan’s condolences following the death of Qatar’s former Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. The visit underscores the longstanding diplomatic and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Qatar.

The prime minister was accompanied by PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar. Upon their arrival at Doha International Airport, the Pakistani delegation was received by Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence, Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani.
During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz is scheduled to meet Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at Lusail Palace to personally convey condolences to the Qatari leadership, the royal family, and the people of Qatar over the passing of the former ruler. The Prime Minister’s Office described the visit as a reflection of the deep-rooted friendship and close cooperation between the two nations.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who ruled Qatar from 1995 to 2013, transformed the Gulf nation into a major global player through economic reforms, diplomatic initiatives, and the expansion of the country’s international influence. He voluntarily transferred power to his son, Sheikh Tamim, in 2013, marking one of the region’s rare peaceful successions. Qatar is currently observing an official mourning period following his death.
