Two police personnel sustained minor injuries after an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near a police van in Peshawar on Sunday, in the latest militant attack targeting law enforcement in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to police, the explosion occurred near Pir Zakorhi Bridge, close to the Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway toll plaza, as a police vehicle was passing through the area. The blast damaged the police van, while the driver and a constable suffered minor injuries. Both officers were shifted to a nearby hospital, where officials said they were in stable condition.

Senior Superintendent of Police Farhan Khan said the explosive device had been planted in the green belt beside the road and detonated as the vehicle approached. A Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) team immediately reached the scene to inspect the area and search for any additional explosive devices.

The attack comes amid a surge in militant violence across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In recent days, several security personnel have been killed in separate attacks, including a deadly assault on a police checkpost in Hangu and a joint security operation in Swat that claimed the lives of both security personnel and militants.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the Peshawar blast and increased security in the area. The latest incident highlights the continuing security challenges facing law enforcement agencies as they confront rising militant activity in the province.
