Washington: US President Donald Trump once again recalled the downing of seven Indian aircraft by Pakistan during heightened Indo-Pak tensions, while also criticizing the Modi government’s foreign policy decisions.
Speaking to the media in the Oval Office, Trump said he has helped prevent eight wars during his tenure, claiming that India and Pakistan were once on the brink of a nuclear conflict. “Seven planes were shot down in the Indo-Pak war,” Trump said, highlighting the severity of the crisis.
According to Trump, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif told him that his mediation efforts helped save millions of lives by preventing a potential nuclear war between the two neighboring countries.
During the same conversation, Trump also referred to India’s controversial purchase of oil from Russia. He said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured him that India would not continue buying oil from Russia, a move that had previously caused tension between Washington and New Delhi. “That issue has now been resolved,” Trump added.
Trump further commented on other global issues, saying that he wants Hamas to be disarmed without involving the US military. He also mentioned that the trade war with China is still ongoing, while diplomatic efforts continue to end the conflict in Ukraine.
