Sindh Makes Licensing Exam Mandatory for Teacher Recruitment

The Sindh government has made it mandatory for candidates to pass a teaching licence examination to be eligible for recruitment as schoolteachers, marking a significant step toward improving education standards in the province. During its board meeting, chaired by Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, the Sindh Teachers Education Development Authority (STEDA) made a decision.

Under the new policy, only those candidates who successfully clear the Teaching Licence Test will qualify for teaching positions in Sindh. Officials emphasised that the move is aimed at strengthening teacher training, professional development, and overall quality of education.

The meeting also discussed amendments to the Teaching Licence Policy 2023, including the introduction of new subject specialisations at the secondary level and a bridging course for a one-year B.Ed. graduates. Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) will also be incorporated into the licensing framework.

Authorities announced that the next phase of the licensing test, covering secondary-level teaching (Grades 6–12), will be conducted in September, with a minimum passing requirement of 50%. Plans are also underway to involve third-party testing agencies to ensure transparency.

Officials believe the initiative will professionalise teaching in Sindh, aligning it with other regulated professions and improving classroom outcomes across the province.
