On August 13, 2025, Justice Iqbal Kalhoro of the Sindh High Court unleashed scathing criticism against the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) during a hearing on illegal constructions in Karachi’s Ramzanabad Garden West.
The judge’s fiery remarks highlight deep-rooted issues within the authority, accusing its officials of rampant corruption and negligence.
“Is your only job to make money under the table?” Justice Kalhoro asked, labeling the SBCA as “the most notorious institution of the government.” He went further, stating, “There will be a special place in hell reserved for SBCA officials.”
The court’s ire stemmed from a petition addressing unauthorized structures, particularly a building constructed in 2000.
Justice Kalhoro grilled SBCA officials on their inaction, questioning why court intervention was necessary for them to perform their duties.
The SBCA claimed the issue had only recently come to their attention and promised action in line with court orders.
Unsatisfied, the judge ordered the authority to address the illegal construction and submit a compliance report by September 16, 2025.
