The Pentagon has cleared the path for submarine sales to Australia, confirming that the trilateral AUKUS security pact remains intact after a months-long review and will proceed as planned.

Under the agreement, Australia is set to receive at least three nuclear-powered Virginia-class submarines in the coming years, a key component of Canberra’s bid to upgrade its naval capabilities and reinforce regional deterrence.
Pentagon officials said the review identified ways to “put AUKUS on the strongest possible footing,” reaffirming U.S. commitment to delivering on its submarine sales and broader strategic cooperation with Australia and the United Kingdom under the pact.
The decision ends speculation over potential cancellation and bolsters Australia’s long-term defense plans—while signaling U.S. resolve to uphold its commitments to allies despite earlier industrial and strategic concerns.
