The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified nine lawmakers from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), including prominent figures such as Omar Ayub Khan, the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, and Senator Shibli Faraz, the Opposition Leader in the Senate.
The ECP notification specifies that the disqualified lawmakers include five National Assembly members, one senator, and three Punjab Assembly members.
The list comprises Omar Ayub Khan (NA-18 Haripur), Shibli Faraz (Senator), Rai Haider Ali (NA-96 Faisalabad-II), Sahibzada Hamid Raza (NA-104 Faisalabad-X), Rai Hassan Nawaz (NA-143 Sahiwal-III), Zartaj Gul (NA-185 DG Khan-II), and Punjab Assembly members Ansar Iqbal, Junaid Afzal Sahi, and Rai Muhammad Murtaza Iqbal.
The ECP declared their seats vacant, citing convictions by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Faisalabad, which sentenced them to 10 years in prison for their roles in the May 9 riots.
The ATC’s July 31, 2025, verdict convicted 108 individuals, including the disqualified lawmakers, on terrorism charges.
