‘No’ Becomes Deadly: 19-Year-old Murdered After Rejecting A Marriage Proposal

A simple ‘no’ took the life of a young lady with a bright future ahead of her. Kinza, a 19-year-old student of Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University in Rawalpindi, was brutally murdered after rejecting a marriage proposal. Kinza was traveling home by bus from Rawalpindi to her hometown in Jhang, maintaining contact with her parents during the journey, when she suddenly disappeared. Shortly afterward, her body was discovered abandoned by the roadside on Faisalabad Road, alongside her bag and noticeable rickshaw tire marks nearby.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by Kinza’s father, Anwar Ali, at the Jhang Satellite Town police station, the prime suspect is Kinza’s relative, Tayyab Idrees. The FIR, registered under sections 302 (murder), 376 (rape), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code, alleges that Tayyab Idrees had proposed marriage to Kinza, which her parents rejected. Enraged by the rejection, Tayyab allegedly lured Kinza from the bus, abducted her, and poisoned her to death before discarding her body and belongings outside a village. The Jhang Satellite Town police have reported that Tayyab confessed to the murder, confirming the chilling motive behind the crime.

This case echoes other recent incidents in Pakistan where women have faced violence for rejecting marriage proposals, such as the murder of TikTok influencer Sana Yousaf in June 2025, who was killed after refusing a suitor’s advances. The recurring nature of such crimes has reignited public discourse on the safety of women and the need for stricter enforcement of laws protecting them.
