Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has approved the use of Karachi’s National Stadium for the IMC Over-40 T20 Cricket World Cup 2025, organized by the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA). The global event, scheduled from December 1 to 13, 2025, will see 14 teams compete in Karachi, including Pakistan, Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and England.
During a meeting on Monday, PVCA Chairman Fawad Ijaz Khan briefed Naqvi on the tournament’s significance, highlighting its role in enhancing Pakistan’s international image and Karachi’s sporting identity. Initially, the PCB offered the National Stadium for only four days, but following PVCA’s request, Naqvi approved its use for 10 days to ensure a world-class and secure event.
Of the total 56 matches, 19 will be played at the National Stadium, with the rest at Moin Khan Academy, Southend Club, National Bank Sports Complex, and Karachi Gymkhana.
Fawad highlighted that cricket fans can expect thrilling performances from former stars like Shahid Afridi, Misbah-ul-Haq, Younis Khan, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal, and Abdul Razzaq. The tournament will showcase veteran cricketers’ skills and Pakistan’s hosting capabilities. Preparations have begun, with PVCA and PCB collaborating on security and logistics to ensure a seamless event.
Fawad emphasized that the tournament will captivate cricket fans nationwide and elevate the National Stadium’s prominence, further boosting the event’s appeal. He added that hosting the World Cup will project Pakistan’s positive image globally, demonstrating its ability to host major sporting events. The event will foster a vibrant, united atmosphere among cricket enthusiasts.
Additionally, Fawad raised concerns about Karachi teams’ representation in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, noting that a team with 21 first-class titles was excluded. Naqvi assured that the issue is under review and a suitable solution will be found.
