ISLAMABAD: Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday held a telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, expressing concern over the ongoing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan and offering Malaysia’s constructive role in restoring peace and stability in the region.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Malaysian leadership and people for the warm hospitality extended to him during his recent visit to Kuala Lumpur. Both leaders discussed key regional developments and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace across the Muslim world.
During the conversation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif informed his Malaysian counterpart about his participation in the signing ceremony of the Gaza Peace Agreement in Sharm El-Sheikh. The two leaders agreed on the need to end the suffering of the Palestinian people, ensure unhindered humanitarian aid to Gaza, and work collectively toward lasting regional stability.
Turning to the Pak-Afghan situation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif briefed Anwar Ibrahim on the security challenges along the border, emphasizing that while Pakistan seeks peace and stability in Afghanistan, cross-border terrorism from Afghan soil remains a major concern.
He urged the Afghan authorities to take immediate and effective measures to dismantle terrorist networks operating within Afghanistan, including Fitna-ul-Kharij, Fitna-ul-Hindustan, TTP, and BLA.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan had agreed to a temporary ceasefire at the request of Afghan officials to facilitate the Doha talks, but concrete action was now essential to ensure sustainable peace.
Anwar Ibrahim expressed concern over the situation and assured that Malaysia was willing to play a constructive and mediatory role to ease tensions and promote dialogue between the two countries.
Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact on regional security issues and continue cooperation for the peace and stability of the Muslim world.
