A gunfight erupted outside the Israeli consulate in Istanbul, leaving one attacker dead and two others injured after an exchange of fire with Turkish police. The incident took place in the city’s financial district, where security forces quickly responded to armed assailants who opened fire near a police checkpoint.

Authorities confirmed that three attackers were involved in the assault. One was killed during the confrontation, while the other two were wounded and taken into custody. Two police officers also sustained minor injuries in the exchange.
Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci stated that the attackers were linked to a group that “exploits religion,” though no specific organisation was named. Reports indicate the suspects had travelled from the city of Izmit in a rented vehicle before carrying out the attack.
The Israeli consulate was not staffed at the time of the incident, as diplomatic personnel have been absent since tensions escalated following the 2023 Gaza war.
Security forces sealed off the area, and an investigation is underway. The attack comes amid heightened regional tensions linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict, raising concerns over the safety of diplomatic missions abroad.
