Freedom Movements Rise Again in India’s Northeast

Freedom movements have once again intensified in the northeastern Indian states of Nagaland, Manipur, and Assam.

The head of the Nagaland Nationalist Movement, Thungaleng Meow, strongly condemned the growing oppression and cultural domination by Indian forces, declaring that their struggle for independence will continue under all circumstances.

Thungaleng Meow warned New Delhi that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to “play with us,” they will still stand firm on their position and never surrender to India.

He alleged that Indian forces are systematically oppressing the people of Nagaland, while the central government is pursuing policies aimed at erasing the state’s identity, culture, and autonomy.

Separatist groups have also stepped up their activities in Manipur and Assam, where local organizations are seeking to form an alliance against what they call the “domination of New Delhi.”

It is worth mentioning that India continues to hold Kashmir, Junagadh, Nagaland, and several other regions under its control, where freedom movements have persisted for decades. The Modi government, however, remains determined to suppress these voices through military means.
