On September 3, 2025, a tragic attack in Lower Kurram, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, left five people dead after unidentified gunmen opened fire on a passenger vehicle. The incident, occurring in a region already scarred by sectarian and tribal violence, has sparked renewed concerns about security in Pakistan’s volatile northwest. Police have launched an investigation, but the attackers fled the scene, leaving authorities scrambling to restore calm and bring the culprits to justice.
The assault took place in Lower Kurram, a tribal district near the Afghan border, where gunmen targeted a passenger van with heavy gunfire. According to police reports, the attack claimed five lives, with the victims’ bodies promptly shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) in Parachinar for identification and post-mortem procedures. The assailants escaped immediately after the shooting, complicating efforts to apprehend them. Consequently, police have strengthened security in the area and initiated a search operation to track down the perpetrators.
Kohat Regional Police Officer Abbas Majeed Marwat confirmed the incident and reported the detention of 12 suspects during a search operation. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police are actively investigating the attack, with Regional Police Officer Marwat overseeing the search for the assailants.
