Preliminary investigation suggests the tragedy may have been driven by overwhelming debt. Police say the family owed more than Rs 15 million, with a further loan complaint of Rs 7.5 million.

Toxic substances—reportedly poison and rodenticide mixed into a drink—were recovered at the scene. A handwritten letter, allegedly written by one of the victims, mentions that the crushing debt drove them toward suicide.
