Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif has officially launched the party’s election campaign for the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections, promising large-scale development projects and improved public services if elected to power.

Addressing a public rally in Muzaffarabad alongside Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the former prime minister reaffirmed his party’s commitment to the region’s development. He proposed the construction of a modern motorway linking Mansehra, Muzaffarabad and Mirpur, saying better infrastructure would strengthen connectivity and boost economic growth.

Nawaz also announced plans to introduce electric buses for Muzaffarabad and deploy mobile hospitals to improve healthcare access. He pledged that a future PML-N government would significantly increase development funding for AJK and ensure the implementation of all projects outlined in the party’s manifesto. He further promised to visit the region every three months to monitor progress if the party forms the next government.

Speaking at the gathering, Maryam Nawaz described the people of Kashmir as part of one family and said the development initiatives implemented in Punjab could also be replicated in AJK. She also accused political opponents of denying the PML-N victory in the 2021 elections.

The campaign comes ahead of the AJK Legislative Assembly elections, which will be held in three phases from July 27 to August 10, with the PML-N seeking to regain political ground in the region.
