Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the rights of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) must be safeguarded under any future constitutional amendment, stressing that the region’s political and constitutional aspirations should remain a national priority. He made the remarks while addressing an election rally in Shigar ahead of the June 7 Gilgit-Baltistan elections.

Bilawal stated that any constitutional reforms should strengthen and protect the rights of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, particularly their struggle for greater political representation and self-governance. He emphasised that the region deserves equal attention in Pakistan’s constitutional framework and future political reforms.
The PPP chairman also called for elections in Gilgit-Baltistan to be held simultaneously with general elections across Pakistan. According to Bilawal, conducting polls at the same time would be an important step toward advancing the region’s demand for greater political rights and ensuring its voice is represented more effectively at the national level.
His remarks come amid ongoing discussions about potential constitutional changes in Pakistan and renewed debate over Gilgit-Baltistan’s constitutional status. The statement is expected to become a key talking point during the election campaign as political parties seek support from voters across the strategically important region.
