ICC Steps Up Efforts to Convince Pakistan to Play India in T20 World Cup

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has intensified negotiations with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in an effort to persuade Pakistan to face India in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, Jang reports.

In meetings at Qaddafi Stadium, ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khawaja, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, and Bangladesh Cricket Board President Aminul Islam held talks focused on potential solutions ahead of Pakistan’s scheduled round-robin match against India. Discussions continued late into the night, with strategic talks set to resume after dinner in a bid to reach a breakthrough.

The ICC is seeking to address Pakistan’s concerns about playing India, especially after Pakistan had previously protested changes to fixtures involving the Bangladesh team over security and venue issues. While PCB and other parties pushed for consensus, officials indicated that any final decision on the India fixture would be announced later.

Bangladesh’s stance and broader board cooperation remain central to discussions aimed at keeping the marquee clash on the T20 World Cup schedule.
