Heavy rains have triggered floods and landslides across parts of India and Nepal, leaving dozens dead and causing widespread damage over the past several days.

In India’s Uttar Pradesh, at least 56 people were killed after exceptionally heavy rainfall caused flooding and landslides across the state. More than 1,000 houses were damaged, while rescue and relief operations continued in several affected districts. Authorities reported rainfall far above the seasonal average, with 66.5 millimetres recorded over 48 hours compared with a normal 7.6 millimetres.

Nepal has also been hit by persistent heavy rain, with at least 12 people killed in floods and landslides since September 24. Seven others remain missing, while more than 1,100 people were evacuated from vulnerable areas. Rescue teams, including helicopters, have been deployed as authorities warn that further rainfall could raise river levels and increase the risk of additional flooding and landslides.

The disasters have highlighted the severe impact of extreme rainfall across the region as emergency teams continue rescue, relief, and damage-assessment efforts.
