Iran has reiterated that diplomacy is the only way to resolve its conflict with the United States and Israel after US President Donald Trump said he had rejected Tehran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the fighting.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said any move to reopen the strategic waterway would depend on conditions set by Tehran. He added that Iran was still awaiting a formal response through mediators and had not received an official US rejection of the proposal.

Iran presented its peace plan during the UN General Assembly in New York, with the proposal reportedly transmitted to Washington through Qatari mediators. Tehran said the plan could lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and a pause in regional hostilities.

Trump, however, said Iran was seeking an immediate deal to reopen the waterway because, in his assessment, it was facing severe pressure.

Araghchi said Iran had presented several diplomatic proposals and maintained that negotiations remained possible. The developments come as the conflict continues to disrupt shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a major global energy route.

Iranian officials have stressed that any agreement would need to address Tehran’s stated conditions, while Washington has continued to press for its own demands.
