Zelensky Says Escalating Russian Airstrikes Aim to Cut Ukraine Off from the Sea

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Russia’s intensified airstrike campaign is designed to sever Ukraine’s access to the Black Sea, significantly threatening the nation’s economic lifelines. Russian forces have stepped up drone and missile attacks on critical port infrastructure in the Odesa region, hitting facilities including the busy Pivdennyi port—key for fuel supplies and exports.

Zelensky stated that the strikes are not just military tactics but an effort to block Ukraine’s coastal regions and disrupt vital sea routes amid the winter season. Odesa’s supply chains have been hit hard, with storage facilities destroyed and logistical routes damaged—including a crucial bridge near the Dniester River that links to Moldova.

The escalation comes as diplomatic efforts continue, with U.S.-led talks aiming to renew negotiations even as violence rises.
