Qatar is set to present the United States with new ideas discussed with Iran on how to meet Tehran’s conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said.

Speaking to reporters in New York, Araghchi said he had held further discussions with Qatari mediators on possible ways to implement Iran’s conditions. He said the proposals would now be taken to Washington, with the US response expected to be relayed back to Tehran through Qatar.

Araghchi said diplomatic contacts involving Qatar and Pakistan had remained open but became more serious after Iran submitted its latest proposal.

According to Iranian state media, Tehran has conveyed a seven-point plan to the US through Qatar and is awaiting an official response.

Iran says certain conditions must be met before the strategically important waterway can be reopened. Araghchi described the conditions as fair and said Tehran had presented what it considers a possible diplomatic solution.

The Strait of Hormuz is a major global shipping route, making the diplomatic efforts significant for regional security and international trade.

Araghchi said he hoped Washington’s response could be received by Tuesday.
