Thousands of users worldwide experienced disruptions on Facebook and Instagram after the two Meta-owned social media platforms suffered widespread outages on Sunday. The technical issues affected both the mobile apps and desktop websites, leaving many users unable to access their accounts or use key platform features.

According to outage tracking website Downdetector, more than 4,800 Facebook users in the United States reported problems, with nearly 63% saying they were unable to access the website. Meanwhile, over 2,800 Instagram users also logged complaints, primarily related to app functionality and connectivity. Reports of disruptions surged around 1pm Pakistan time, indicating a sharp increase in user complaints.
The service interruptions were not limited to the United States. Reuters reported intermittent access to both platforms in countries including Singapore, suggesting the outage affected users in multiple regions. At the time of reporting, Meta had not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the disruption or provided an estimated timeline for full restoration of services.
While some users gradually regained access, many continued to experience login failures, slow loading times, and problems posting content. The outage once again highlighted the global dependence on Meta’s platforms for communication, business, and social networking, as users turned to alternative platforms to report the disruption and seek updates.
