The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has summoned Noreen Niazi, the sister of former prime minister Imran Khan, over allegations of disseminating “false, offensive, and inflammatory” content on social media targeting state institutions. She has been directed to appear before the agency’s Islamabad office on July 20 as part of an ongoing inquiry.

According to the official notice issued by the NCCIA, Noreen is accused of spreading content that allegedly sought to defame state institutions and promote false narratives online. The notice warns that failure to appear before investigators could result in legal consequences under Section 174 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with non-compliance with official summons.

The summons follows the circulation of a video interview in which Noreen Niazi made controversial claims about the brief Pakistan-India military confrontation last year. In the interview, she alleged that the conflict was orchestrated to improve the military’s image and linked it to broader geopolitical objectives, including claims regarding Israel. The remarks drew sharp criticism from senior government officials.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry condemned Noreen’s statements, calling them irresponsible and damaging to national institutions. Officials have indicated that legal proceedings will continue in accordance with the law as the investigation moves forward.
