Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar has intensified his campaign ahead of the upcoming Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) election, challenging the professional credentials of prominent members of the government-backed Independent Group.

Safdar has questioned the law degree and professional credentials of presidential candidate Syed Amjad Shah and Judicial Commission of Pakistan member Ahsan Bhoon. He has submitted a complaint to the JCP secretary seeking verification of Bhoon’s educational and professional records.

Safdar alleged that questions had emerged over the authenticity of Bhoon’s law degree and called for an independent examination of the original records. Bhoon has rejected the allegations and said he plans to file a defamation case against Safdar.

Safdar has also approached the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) over social media content allegedly posted by lawyer Mian Daud, seeking an inquiry into what he described as defamatory material.

The dispute comes as lawyers prepare for the SCBA election, with the PML-N Lawyers Forum backing the Independent Group and Safdar supporting Professional Lawyers Group candidate Sardar Amaan.

The contest has drawn wider attention because of divisions within the legal community over constitutional and political issues.
