At least 16 people lost their lives, and seven others were injured after a passenger coach collided with a parked bus on the Swat Motorway in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The tragic accident occurred near the Chakdara Interchange in the early hours of the morning, according to rescue officials and motorway police.

Officials said the passenger coach was travelling from Rawalpindi to Swat when it rammed into a stationary bus parked along the motorway. Initial investigations suggest overspeeding and driver negligence may have contributed to the deadly collision. Rescue teams and local authorities quickly reached the site and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.
Several victims reportedly died on the spot due to the severity of the crash, while authorities feared the death toll could rise because some injured passengers remain in critical condition. The motorway remained partially closed for several hours as rescue operations and clearance work continued.
Road accidents remain a serious concern in Pakistan, where poor road safety measures, reckless driving and inadequate transport regulations frequently lead to deadly incidents. Government officials have expressed condolences to the victims’ families and ordered an investigation into the accident.
