Pakistan, Norway Move to Restore Direct PIA Flights as Community Urges Reconnection

Pakistan’s ambassador to Norway, Saadia Altaf Qazi, has confirmed talks with the chief of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to restart direct flights between Pakistan and Norway, a long-standing demand of the Pakistani diaspora in Oslo and beyond. Qazi said that elderly citizens and business travellers have repeatedly called for the resumption of direct PIA services, which were paused years ago, and the embassy is prioritising their needs. During a phone call with PIA’s CEO, Air Vice-Marshal Muhammad Amir Hayat, the airline chief assured that steps are underway to resume flight operations soon, potentially boosting convenience for community members and strengthening economic ties between the two countries.

The ambassador noted this initiative follows other embassy efforts to enhance services for Pakistanis abroad, such as establishing NADRA and dual-nationality counters in Norway, highlighting a growing focus on expat welfare and connectivity.
