Norwegian Foreign Affairs Minister Espen Barth Eide is set to visit Pakistan on August 13-14, marking the first visit by a Norwegian foreign minister to the country in a decade, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said on Wednesday.

Eide is visiting Islamabad at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. During his two-day visit, the Norwegian minister will hold delegation-level talks with Dar, with discussions expected to cover a broad range of bilateral and regional issues.

According to the Foreign Office, Pakistan and Norway will explore opportunities to expand cooperation in trade and investment, climate change, renewable energy, education, and people-to-people contacts. The two sides will also exchange views on key regional and international developments.

The visit comes amid increased diplomatic engagement between Islamabad and Oslo. Dar and Eide held telephone conversations in March and April, while Norwegian State Secretary Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik visited Islamabad in May.

The Foreign Office said Eide’s visit would provide an opportunity to strengthen the longstanding relations between Pakistan and Norway and identify new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.

The last visit by a Norwegian foreign minister to Pakistan was in 2015, when then-Foreign Minister Borge Brende travelled to Islamabad and held meetings with senior Pakistani officials and the army chief.
