Greta Thunberg Dragged, Humiliated In Israeli Captivity

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg boldly joined the Global Sumud Flotilla last week to challenge Israel’s long-standing maritime blockade of Gaza. However, what started as a humanitarian push for aid delivery quickly spiraled into a nightmare of alleged abuse. On October 1, 2025, Israeli naval forces intercepted over 40 vessels carrying more than 450 activists, including Thunberg, and detained them all. Now, as of today, October 5, 2025, fellow participants have unleashed explosive accounts of her mistreatment, igniting worldwide outrage.

The flotilla aimed to deliver food and medicine to Gaza’s struggling residents. Yet, Israeli authorities boarded the boats in international waters, calling the effort a “Hamas-linked provocation.” Consequently, they detained activists near Ashdod port. While most faced deportation, Thunberg refused, awaiting a court hearing on October 6.

Turkish journalist Ersin Celik told CNN Turk that soldiers “dragged Greta by her hair, beat her, and forced her to kiss the Israeli flag.” Similarly, Malaysian activist Hazwani Helmi and American Windfield Beaver described guards wrapping her in a flag for propaganda photos and denying water. “They treated us like animals,” Helmi said. Additionally, Swedish officials confirmed Thunberg’s reports of bedbug-infested cells and dehydration, per The Guardian.

In contrast, Israel denies torture, releasing footage of Thunberg receiving water. Still, protests erupt in London and Istanbul, demanding her release. As tensions soar, Thunberg’s plight highlights Gaza’s crisis and tests activist rights. Her voice, though confined, resonates worldwide.
