Iran’s government says Bushehr Airport in the country’s southwest has been rendered inoperable following US airstrikes, marking another escalation in the ongoing conflict between Washington and Tehran.

According to Iran’s official news agency IRNA, government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said the airport can no longer function after sustaining significant damage in the latest wave of US attacks. She added that the strikes also damaged rail infrastructure, bridges, tunnels, and other civilian facilities across the country, further disrupting transportation and public services. Iranian authorities also reported casualties among government employees and damage to private property.

Bushehr, home to Iran’s only operational nuclear power plant, has become a strategic target during the conflict because of its military and logistical significance. While officials confirmed the airport has been put out of service, there were no reports of damage to the nearby nuclear facility in the latest announcement.

The latest development comes as the United States has expanded its military campaign deeper into Iranian territory, targeting military installations as well as key infrastructure. Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks on US interests and regional allies, raising fears of a broader regional conflict with significant implications for energy markets and international shipping.
