The federal government has unveiled a nationwide monsoon preparedness plan aimed at improving disaster response and minimizing the impact of heavy rains and flooding during the ongoing monsoon season.

Speaking at a high-level meeting, Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Minister Musadik Malik stressed that effective disaster management depends on preparedness, coordination, and timely action rather than emergency response alone. He called for stronger collaboration among federal and provincial authorities to protect vulnerable communities and critical infrastructure.

The strategy focuses on improving early warning systems, strengthening coordination between disaster management agencies, ensuring rapid deployment of emergency services and enhancing communication with local administrations. Authorities also emphasized the need to identify flood-prone areas, improve drainage systems, and maintain continuous monitoring of weather conditions throughout the monsoon season.

The minister noted that climate change is increasing the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, making long-term planning essential to reducing risks and preventing future disasters. He urged institutions to adopt proactive measures, strengthen resilience, and ensure that resources are available before emergencies occur.

The government said the preparedness plan is designed to improve coordination among relevant departments, accelerate emergency response efforts and enhance public safety as heavy rainfall continues to affect different parts of the country. Officials hope the initiative will help reduce damage to lives, property, and infrastructure during the current monsoon season.
