Trump Faces Major Political Test as Americans Vote in 2026 Midterm Elections

Americans are heading to the polls on November 3 in midterm elections that could reshape political control in Washington and determine the direction of President Donald Trump’s second term.

All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 Senate seats are being contested, alongside governorships in 36 states. Democrats are seeking to take control of Congress, while Republicans are fighting to retain their majorities.

The election has become a nationwide test of public opinion on Trump’s presidency, with voter concerns over rising living costs, inflation, tariffs, and the ongoing war with Iran shaping the campaign.

More than 57 million Americans had already voted early before Election Day. Recent polls have shown Democrats with an advantage in several key races, although the Senate contest remains closely contested.

A Democratic takeover of either chamber could limit Trump’s legislative agenda and increase congressional scrutiny of his administration. The results are also expected to influence political strategies ahead of the 2028 presidential election.

The outcome will reveal whether voters want to shift the balance of power in Washington or maintain Republican control.
