Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday expressed strong appreciation for the World Bank’s continued partnership and support during a high-level meeting with World Bank President Ajay Banga in Islamabad. The leaders discussed strengthening development cooperation across key sectors, including infrastructure, human capital, energy reforms, and economic stability initiatives, all central to Pakistan’s ongoing reform agenda. Shehbaz acknowledged the bank’s role in helping Pakistan navigate fiscal and structural challenges and emphasised the importance of sustainable, inclusive growth.

Banga reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s development priorities and increasing investment in poverty reduction, climate resilience, and job creation. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation on programs aimed at boosting productivity and economic opportunity for all regions of the country. The World Bank head also highlighted the importance of governance and transparency in ensuring effective use of development financing.
