Karachi Traffic Police have officially begun issuing e-challans for lane violations on Sharea Faisal under the city’s automated Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS). The new enforcement measure came into effect on June 1 and is designed to improve traffic discipline on one of Karachi’s busiest roads.

According to traffic police officials, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, buses, rickshaws, and other slow-moving vehicles must remain in the two leftmost lanes. Meanwhile, private vehicles, including cars, jeeps, and double-cabin vehicles, are required to use the designated fast-moving lanes on the right. Violators will now receive electronic challans through a camera-based monitoring system without manual intervention.
Deputy Inspector General of Traffic Pir Mohammed Shah said the system operates through automated surveillance and faceless e-ticketing, ensuring transparency and reducing the possibility of discretionary enforcement. Authorities believe the initiative will help reduce congestion, improve lane discipline and enhance road safety on Sharea Faisal, which carries hundreds of thousands of vehicles daily.
The move follows the expansion of Karachi’s broader e-challan program, which has already issued hundreds of thousands of traffic tickets across major city corridors. Officials have urged motorists to strictly follow lane regulations to avoid penalties and contribute to smoother traffic flow.
