Ishaq Dar Confirms Mushtaq Ahmad’s Release

Pakistan breathes a sigh of relief today, October 7, 2025, as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirms the release of former Jamaat-i-Islami senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan from Israeli custody. Moreover, Dar revealed that Ahmad now rests safely at the Pakistan embassy in Amman, Jordan, where he remains in “good health and high spirits.”

For instance, in a post on X, Dar stated, “I am pleased to confirm that former Senator Mushtaq has been released and is now safely with Pakistan Embassy in Amman. Consequently, the embassy pledges full support for his return to Pakistan, tailored to his preferences and schedule.

Furthermore, this breakthrough caps a tense week-long ordeal. Ahmad, leading a five-member Pakistani team, joined the Global Sumud Flotilla, a 45-vessel aid mission from Spain aimed at breaching Israel’s Gaza blockade. However, Israeli forces intercepted the convoy on October 2, detaining activists, including Greta Thunberg. As a result, Pakistan’s Foreign Office sprang into action, coordinating through its Amman embassy and enlisting aid from friendly nations. Additionally, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif personally assured JI chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman of swift intervention, tasking Dar with the lead.

Yet, Ahmad’s journey underscores Gaza’s dire crisis, where UN warnings of famine loom large. Despite harsh treatment in detention, as he later shared on X, Ahmad vows to continue his resistance, from Adiala jail to Israeli cells. Meanwhile, Dar extended heartfelt thanks to international partners who bolstered Pakistan’s diplomatic push.

Therefore, as repatriation plans unfold, this resolution not only reunites a patriot but also spotlights global solidarity for humanitarian causes. In summary, Ahmad’s safe arrival signals a diplomatic triumph for Pakistan. Thus, eyes now turn to his homecoming, promising deeper insights into the flotilla’s thwarted mission.
