The United States has said intelligence that led to an Israeli airstrike on a military airbase in northern Syria was incorrect, raising further questions about the circumstances surrounding the attack.

US Ambassador to Türkiye and special envoy for Syria and Iraq Tom Barrack said Israel had received intelligence suggesting that Türkiye might be moving military assets to the abandoned Abu al-Duhur Air Base in eastern Idlib province. Israel subsequently shared the information with Washington for analysis.
According to Barrack, US intelligence agencies investigated the claim and found no evidence that Türkiye was moving military equipment or personnel to the site. He said the information behind the Israeli strike was therefore not accurate.
Barrack also suggested that there may have been a miscommunication between the Israeli military, Mossad, and the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He stressed that neither Washington nor Ankara had been informed about the attack beforehand.
Israeli officials had said Turkish soldiers were attempting to establish a presence at the base and deploy military installations farther south. Israeli warplanes carried out eight strikes on the facility, targeting its runway and an inactive structure inside a hangar. No casualties were reported.
The strike has added to tensions between Israel, Türkiye, and Syria, with Washington urging greater communication and efforts to prevent further escalation.
